What you will do

What you will do 

The Director of the Vendor Management Office (VMO) provides strategic leadership for the end-to-end lifecycle of third-party global relationships within R&D for departments, such as Medical Safety. This role ensures that vendor engagements align with company goals and signed contractual agreements and is responsible for governing performance against established key performance indicators (KPIs) to mitigate against operational and financial risks.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Contract Excellence

  • Works with senior leadership to set the strategy for the optimal, fit-for-purpose vendor operating model to deliver on global and local requirements.
  • Provides functional leadership and expertise on Request for Proposal (RFP) evaluation and selection of strategic vendor partners.
  • Collaborates with finance, IT, procurement, legal, HCC, business partners and suppliers to achieve compliance with contractual agreement policies, competitive bidding requirements, Pharmacovigilance System Master File (PSMF) obligations and other company requirements as applicable

Vendor Oversight and Compliance

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for key strategic partners, fostering transparency and collaboration.
  • Lead Vendor Strategy and Oversight Leadership team (VSOLT) and Vendor Executive Steering Committee (VESC) governance meetings which focus on KPI monitoring, strategy, and issue resolution.
  • Partner with the appropriate quality organizations and business partners to manage the Approved supplier list, Service level agreements including establishing appropriate KPIs and thresholds, and CAPAs as required.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for audits and inspections.

Financial Accountability

  • Manage multi-million-dollar budget; lead business planning, management of total investment spend in adherence to approved budget and agreements.
  • Analyze financial data trends and opportunities to identify cost-saving opportunities through operational efficiencies or contract leverage.
  • Monitor and confirm contract deliverables are met and invoiced correctly.
  • Ensure compliance with quarter and year-end financial processes.
  • Collaborate with regional finance partners in NA, LATAM, EMEA and APAC to verify accuracy in vendor invoice accounting against forecast.

Team Leadership: 

  • Manages a global team of Senior Managers who execute and govern across a broad vendor landscape
  • Oversees and facilitates consistency in execution of the end-to-end life cycle of third-party contracts, governance, KPIs, and budget management.
  • Establishes Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and provides mentorship for team development and growth

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field; a Master’s degree (MBA) preferred.
  • Extensive experience in vendor management, procurement, or third-party oversight, with strong people leadership experience
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Strong financial Acumen
  • Ability to manage globally
  • Ability to communicate to all levels including senior management
  • Collaboration skills to drive business results with business partners
  • Experience with smartsheet and SAP systems
  • Fluency in English
