The Global Environment Manager leads environmental compliance programs and advances corporate sustainability initiatives across operating sites. This role is accountable for regulatory compliance, data integrity, and continuous improvement in environmental performance.

The role partners closely with cross‑functional teams—including Sustainability, Operations, Procurement, Corporate Real Estate, Legal, and Product R&D—as well as site, regional, and global EHS teams to reduce environmental risk, improve resource efficiency, and deliver on sustainability commitments.

Key responsibilities include overseeing the development and implementation of EHS policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and strengthening company‑wide sustainability programs. The manager provides subject‑matter expertise, leads teams, and drives initiatives that balance environmental risk reduction with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance

  • Support compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including those governing air emissions, wastewater discharges, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and chemical management (e.g., RCRA, CAA, CWA, TSCA, EPCRA, REACH).
  • Provide support to site and regional EHS teams for permit applications, renewals, and regulatory reporting to federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Conduct environmental inspections and audits; track corrective actions to completion.
  • Maintain environmental management system (EMS) documentation, corporate level environmental standards, and training materials.
  • Partner with site operations and EHS teams to ensure regulatory requirements are integrated into daily activities and projects.
  • Connects externally to industry associations and thought leaders to benchmark our goals, programs and processes.
  • Respond to questions from and provide guidance to internal stakeholders regarding regulatory compliance and sustainable operations.
  • Support various global workstreams – e.g. PFAS, emerging regulations, CSRD – as needed.

Sustainable Operations

  • In partnership with Global Sustainability and Operations, lead or support initiatives to drive sustainable operations.  Key areas of focus:
  • Reduce waste generation, increase reuse and recycling, and improve waste diversion performance.
  • Improve water efficiency and mitigation water/business interruption risk.
  • Other focus topics may include biodiversity and GHG/Net Zero
  • Coordinate data collection, validation, and reporting of waste and water metrics to support regulatory reporting and sustainability goals.
  • Work to embed sustainability initiatives within functional team processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate suppliers and waste vendors to ensure alignment with company sustainability and compliance standards.
  • Develop and promote best practices for circular resource use and water stewardship across operations.

Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PiE)

  • Support initiatives to minimize release of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and other chemicals of concern to the environment.
  • Partner with R&D, Operations and EHS teams to assess and control PiE risks related to wastewater discharges and waste handling.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving regulations and industry best practices related to pharmaceuticals in the environment.

Training and Communication

  • Develop and deliver environmental compliance and sustainability training for global, regional and site personnel.
  • Communicate updates on regulatory changes, corporate sustainability initiatives, and emerging environmental issues.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in environmental compliance and sustainability management within complex organizational settings
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations (EPA, EU, local authorities) and sustainability reporting.
  • Experience managing waste, water, and chemical compliance programs.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, build, influence, and implement standard business processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate data and challenge results.
  • Demonstrated experience with change management.
  • Outstanding leadership and collaboration with ability to gain trust and influence at all levels.
  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental data management, performance measurement, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to lead risk assessment and mitigation efforts, ensuring adherence to environmental health and safety regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, to support data analysis, reporting, and presentations

Desired Qualifications

  • Six Sigma certification
  • ISO14001 Lead Auditor or Auditor Training

$124,100.00 - $175,200.00
