The Senior Manager Maintenance will lead a technical team to ensure maximum production output through all maintenance aspects of site assets, in a safe and quality manner. They are accountable for achieving production equipment efficiencies while maintaining cost controls. This role may also pick up additional projects based on site needs and available capacity. The Senior Manager Maintenance plays a key role in setting this environment through coaching, mentoring, and developing direct reports. Encouraging a philosophy of carrying out individual responsibility within a team environment is expected.
Core Responsibilities:
Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations, Kenvue’s policies, procedures and guidelines, this position will perform the following duties (and other duties as assigned):
Equipment set up, start-up checks, troubleshooting, and repair:
- Provide oversight and strategic leadership for the following:
1) Manufacturing and facility maintenance activities
2) Preventative Maintenance (PM) program
3) Operational efficiency improvements
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and guidelines for maintenance activities; establish and review metrics for maintenance excellence; develop and execute strategies to improve maintenance metrics
- Ensure maintenance execution of a combination of manual tasks, including but not limited to, sorting, inspecting, assembling, and mechanical servicing; accurately complete paperwork and electronic transactions for all documentation requirements, including but not limited to, ERP/CMMS transactions, paper and electronic logbooks
- Ensure environmental health and safety procedures are understood and followed during startup, shutdown, trouble shooting and operation of equipment
Equipment Cleaning, Housekeeping & Calibration:
- Ensure maintenance teams perform activities around maintenance equipment cleaning activities
- Manage maintenance personnel to continue 5S activities for maintenance areas
- Ensure that calibrations are tracked and performed as required
APR:
- Collect and provide required APR/PQR quality attribute data and perform analysis of the data per established templates and work instructions
Systems Knowledge:
- Serve as a power user in the applicable systems and roles assigned
- Utilize tools within MS office and other systems to improve business effectiveness
Product Knowledge:
- Serve as the maintenance subject matter expert to understand the critical aspect of product, component and labeling requirements; act as point of reference for audits
- Understand product family, product size and put-up, and product characteristics (color, viscosity) associated active and excipient; critical parameters are associated with all processing steps
Training:
- Ensure employees under role scope of responsibility are trained in required procedures for the execution of their role and stay current with training requirements during the year, including verification of any licenses required to perform their roles
- Act as subject matter expert and be a curriculum owner
- Partner with training department to create training materials including curricula
Investigations:
- Ensure adequate resources to support investigations
- Participate in and write investigations as required; act as approver on investigations
Compliance – Safety, GMP, Facilities:
- Seek prompt identification, reporting and correction of deviations in the workplace as noted by employees
- Track and drive commitments (PA, observations, etc.) to closure in a timely manner; enter all commitments from regulatory documents, internal audits into the commitment tracking systems
- Attend GMP training on the schedule designated for the role and as appropriate for the role; communicate and identify GMP gaps
- Adhere to strict compliance with procedures according to the roles and responsibilities
- Participate in and act as subject matter expert in all types of audits and inspections
- Coordinate efforts in case of emergency, such as a spill, fire, etc.
- Take necessary action to eliminate and immediately address safety hazards; communicate any observed unsafe behaviors immediately
- Wear the appropriate PPE when working in manufacturing and other hazardous working environments and advocate standards of safety
- Contribute to and attend all EHS programs as assigned
- Maintain facility and work area in good working condition
Documentation Management:
- Approve Standard Operating Procedures and relevant quality documentation; review and sign off on relevant documentation per the function (i.e., manufacturing) as required by the quality process in the execution of the relevant work
- Perform/assist in the completion and documentation of the process steps as per the documentation directives
- Complete visual verification of the process and document these steps in the appropriate system
- Document all activities per the GMP requirements
Process Excellence, Lean, Continuous Improvement:
- Complete process excellence training as needed; ensure that team actively participates and applies learnings from training
- Drive implementation of continuous improvement actions and kaizen events
- Act as a champion for Process Excellence/Lean methodology and application of Lean concepts in work area; support team in application of lean concepts and methodology
Leadership:
- Oversee the adherence and performance of the functional team to the Compliance, Product Quality, Customer Service and Cost goals
- Act as a role model when exhibiting core values and behaviors; oversee the adherence to Fort Washington Policy and Kenvue Code of Conduct Policy
- Facilitate and provide indication to the site management team for the prioritization of projects and technical resources as needed
- Provide strategic and tactical direction to the team to ensure that compliance, business and customer service goals are translated into a tactical plan then executed; provide support to ensure all needed resources are made available and proper communications are provided to management and to the workforce
- Act as mentor and coach in the areas of project management, strategic planning, process design, metric management, and training development in the functional unit
- Serve as a change agent for transformational activities
- Partner with and effectively communicate with cross-functional groups as required (R&D, vendors, lab, etc.)
What we are looking for
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, scientific or related technical discipline
- A minimum of 8-10 years of engineering, technical and/or operations experience
- Experience working in FDA/cGMP compliance environment, such as pharmaceutical, OTC, food or personal care products
- A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated leadership and people development experience
- Demonstrated project management skills/experience
- Experience in multiple engineering and/or operations disciplines
- Working knowledge of CMMS and ERP systems
- The ability to work flexible hours at times; this role leads an organization that supports a 24/7 plant operation
