What will you

The role of the Senior Scientist at Materials (R&D) is pivotal, as they take the lead in individual projects across the Asia Pacific Region (APAC) with a global perspective. This position is integral to supporting global base business and chemical resiliency operations, particularly in addressing supplier-driven changes, Cost improvement projects and troubleshooting for both internal and external manufacturing sites. The Senior Scientist collaborates closely with global business partners, playing a key role in delivering impactful global initiatives.

Furthermore, the Senior Scientist at Materials (R&D) spearheads and executes raw material projects for renowned products, including NEUTROGENA®, AVEENO®, LISTERINE®, JOHNSON’S®, and BAND-AID®.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Scientist in the Change Management workstream at APAC Materials Center, this role is defined by a diverse and impactful array of responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of APAC Base Business and/or Rubicon raw material qualifications, representing the APAC region in core technical team meetings.
  • Ensure the timely completion and compliance of regional and global projects triggered by raw material discontinuations, supplier-driven changes, cost improvement initiatives, and business continuity projects.
  • Introduce process improvement ideas, driving simplifications to foster strong relationships with key stakeholders. Collaborate closely with Procurement, Plant, Quality, and Rapid Response teams to execute innovative, science-based qualification projects that ensure business continuity.
  • Strengthen the technical expertise of projects by bringing in a more profound scientific rationale regarding raw material chemistry, its function, and characteristics in products. Possess a deeper understanding of raw materials in rinse-off products, sunscreens, and leave-on product categories.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and a proactive approach to deep diving into each material category, providing strategic suggestions to supply chain and R&D functions to build a robust and strategic category for the future.
  • Engage with and drive actions to improve reliability and agility with strategic suppliers. Facilitate discussions on upcoming changes, challenges, and mutual support required.
  • Cultivate an agile mindset within the team and drive new ways of working, promoting agility with stakeholders across R&D and Supply Chain. Thorough training is provided to develop technical expertise, soft skills, and global exposure.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

8-10 years in FMCG sector (Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Change management & people management is required) Minimum 2-3 years of people management experience. Mater of Pharmacy/Cosmetics technology/M. Tech in Cosmetics is preferred for this role.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the change control management process, ensuring smooth transitions and adherence to protocols.
  • A Strong formulations skill and knowledge of personal care product development is desired. Expertise on the alternate supplier qualification is must for this role.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of raw materials and their nuanced impact on personal care formulations, fostering a comprehensive understanding.
  • Exhibits adequate knowledge of GxP principles and quality systems, contributing to the maintenance of rigorous standards.
  • Displays excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, essential for effective collaboration and project coordination.
  • Collaborates seamlessly with internal and external resources, leveraging a cooperative approach to achieve project objectives.
  • Holds a strong understanding of raw material chemistry, recognizing its usage and function in the development of finished products.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, ensuring efficient documentation and communication.
  • Exhibits the ability to manage and resolve interpersonally challenging situations, contributing to a harmonious working environment.
  • Displays a notable ability to successfully navigate unknown or unforeseen challenges, showcasing resilience and problem-solving skills.
  • Take on a leadership role by training employees, planning work for others, and reviewing work for both quality and quantity, fostering team growth and efficiency.
