What you will do

The Kenvue site in Helsingborg, Sweden is the home of the strong and growing brand NICORETTE®, a global market leader in smoking cessation. In 2021 our production facility was recognized as a Lighthouse by World Economic Forum, marking us as a beacon in The Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Principal Engineer, Self Care SME serves as a recognized expert in key solids and liquids manufacturing technologies ranging from granulation and compression to hot‑melt extrusion, gum manufacturing, liquid processing, inhalers, and packaging. Centered at the Helsingborg, Sweden manufacturing site with some incidental support to other EMEA Selfcare sites such as Val-de-Reuil, France manufacturing site, this role supports the Self Care Technology Roadmap by introducing advanced technologies, state‑of‑the‑art equipment, and digital capabilities that elevate product performance and site operational efficiency.

Technical Support:

  • Contributes to the shaping and maintenance of technology roadmaps, and forecasts for Self Care manufacturing and packaging assets.

  • Ensure programs/projects are aligned with the technology platform roadmaps. Contributes to planning, scoping, quantification and implementation of all sorts of site continuous improvement programs.

  • Identifies and introduces innovative technologies, designs, and techniques supporting long‑term business objectives.

  • Conceives, plans and implements solutions of considerable novelty and importance as well as develops and evaluates plans for solving a variety of unique and complex engineering problems that require the regular use of innovation.

  • Optimizes current processes and manufacturing equipment to provide measurable improvements in step change, productivity, quality, cost, and safety results.

  • Establish, enforce, and optimize standards for technologies. Promotes and monitors all regulatory requirements impacting the standards. 

  • Provides technical guidance for design, prototype development, and engineering evaluations.

Capability Building and Influence:

  • Provides mentoring to engineers and project teams and supports capability building efforts for the Helsingborg manufacturing site.

  • Participates in Community of Practice in own area(s) of expertise. Engage in internal and external benchmarking and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Serves as the primary technical SME for complex issue resolution in Self Care assets.  Serve as technical subject matter expert regarding changes/improvements/CIPs and sustainability.

  • Influences internal and external peers.  Effectively influences people, multiple projects and tasks of various complexities. Communicate effectively with other regions and divisions within and outside Kenvue.

  • Monitors industry trends and best practices and drives innovation in the manufacturing processes.

Technology Projects Delivery:

  • Executes portfolio of all types of Engineering projects.

  • Prepares and leads review of project proposals, charters, project updates for assigned projects for management.

  • Performs feasibility study of new projects, supports to define business case.

  • Aligns cross-functional partners and builds consensus on project scope and priorities.

  • Develops, reviews and analyzes specifications and engineering packages.

  • Manages the engineering, lean design, construction, commissioning and qualification of projects from concept through operations for new technology introduction projects.

  • Ensure that project delivery process is followed.

Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS):

Comply with the requirements established in the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Program and the ISO 14001 Standard, including:

Complies with EHS trainings, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintains a safe area and work environment by following and encouraging the following rules and procedures:

    • Use of personal protection equipment

    • Fire protection

    • Spill reporting (includes hazardous waste), incidents and/or “near misses”

    • Complies with specific EHS program requirements (i.e, forklift operations, Ergonomics Program, LockOut/TagOut, and Process Safety Management) as applicable.

  • Generates, encourages, and assists peers/employees in EHS involvement in all changes that affect safety and environmental.

  • Participates in the waste reduction and recycling program.

  • Participates in energy reduction and other initiatives to protect and promote environmental protection.

  • Guarantees his/her behavior is safe in the work area.

  • Immediately notifies the supervisor of any incident or accident that occurs in the company, including injury and/or occupational illness.  The supervisor/manager submits an Incident Report within 24 hours of the accident.

What we are looking for

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in Engineering.  Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or any other engineering discipline.

  • Deep technical mastery in gum manufacturing and packaging. 

  • Experience in solids and liquids technologies for drug manufacturing such as tableting, lozenges, encapsulation, oral powders and/or inhalers.

  • Applied understanding of the business & the regulatory environment, with the ability to anticipate organizational need.

  • Knowledge of cGMPs and Good Documentation Practices

  • Strong process orientation with financial and analytical skills, including business case development

  • Ability to lead others through complex (technical & non-technical) problem solving using deductive thinking

  • Bilingual (English + Swedish)

  • Experience working in FDA/cGMP compliance is preffered
