The Indirect Tax Planning Analyst – Brazil is responsible for supporting the company’s indirect tax planning strategies and ensuring tax-efficient operations across Brazilian business activities. This role focuses on analyzing Brazilian indirect tax regimes—including ICMS, IPI, PIS, COFINS, and ISS (CBS/IBS)—to identify planning opportunities, optimize tax positions, and support compliance with local regulations.
The Analyst works closely with finance, supply chain, legal, and external advisors to analyze and model tax impacts, support business initiatives, and ensure alignment with evolving Brazilian tax legislation.
The Analyst will support Tax and Finance teams with technical expertise, actionable recommendations and clear guidance to ensure compliance with current and anticipated indirect tax legislation.
Key Responsibilities
Indirect Tax Planning & Strategy
Analyze Brazilian indirect tax legislation and assess impacts on company operations.
Support the development and implementation of tax-efficient structures for supply chain, procurement, sales, and intercompany transactions.
Identify opportunities to optimize indirect tax positions while maintaining compliance.
Assist in evaluating tax implications of new business models, products, and transactions.
Tax Analysis & Modelling
Perform quantitative analysis and modelling of indirect tax scenarios related to ICMS, IPI, PIS/COFINS, and ISS (CBS/IBS).
Prepare impact assessments for proposed operational or structural changes.
Support tax planning initiatives by preparing financial projections and documentation.
Legislative Monitoring
Monitor changes in Brazilian tax laws, regulations, and administrative guidance.
Summarize legislative updates and communicate potential impacts to internal stakeholders.
Support implementation of tax reform or regulatory changes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with supply chain, logistics, finance, and legal teams to integrate tax considerations into operational decisions.
Provide tax guidance on contracts, transactions, and business initiatives.
Support ERP and tax engine implementations affecting indirect tax determination.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain documentation supporting tax planning strategies and positions.
Assist with preparation of technical memos and internal tax policy documentation.
Support internal and external audits by providing tax analysis and documentation.
Calculate financial statements and determine jobs tax and foreign withholding tax credits accurately in compliance with government regulations.
Assist with tax audits by collecting relevant data and developing comprehensive responses to audit inquiries.
Maintain and review federal, state, and local tax records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Participate in special projects related to tax reporting and compliance as assigned.
What we are looking for
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Postgraduate studies or specialization in Tax or Brazilian Tax Law preferred.
Experience in indirect tax analysis or related tax roles.
Experience in tax advisory, tax planning, or Big Four/public accounting is a plus.
Experience working with Brazilian indirect tax regimes (ICMS, IPI, PIS/COFINS, ISS).
Strong knowledge of Brazilian indirect tax rules and compliance frameworks.
Experience with tax modelling and financial analysis.
Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP) and tax determination engines is a plus.
Advanced Excel skills; data analysis tools are an advantage.
Ability to perform detailed tax research and analysis to support tax planning and compliance.
Experience assisting with tax audits and responding to tax authority inquiries.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
Strong foundation in indirect tax principles.
Demonstrated track record of innovative problem-solving in indirect tax analysis.
Proficiency in tax software and data analytics tools to drive automation and insightful reporting.
Exceptional ability to interpret and apply complex tax laws creatively while maintaining strict compliance.
Strong communication skills to effectively present tax strategies and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
