Employee & Labor Relations Specialist for Korea & Japan (한국 노무사 채용, 일어 & 영어 가능자)  

This position reports into ERLR Head Asia and is based at Seoul, South Korea.

What you will do

  • The Employee & Labor Relations Specialist is responsible for managing Employee Relations and Labor Relations cases for designated workforce group(s) for Korea and Japan. 
  • Management of Employee Relations and Labor Relations includes but is not limited to assistance with complex employment policy interpretation, workforce grievances, advice of management on discipline, coaching and training managers and employees and driving adherence to standards.
  • Guide and collaborate with managers on addressing performance-related challenges by offering solutions like the implementation of performance management processes.
  • Serve as the main support resource for people managers, delivering direct intervention and practical assistance in resolving employee performance issues.
  • They are responsible for using standard tools, processes, and guidelines to research/investigate concerns, to identify policy violations and evaluate findings to ensure appropriate actions are consistently administered. 
  • They will manage non-complex grievance and discipline cases in unionized environments. 
  • They operate as a steward for the company, escalating matters of concern as necessary to ensure that the interest of the company is protected.
  • The Employee & Labour Relations Specialist manages assigned cases to ensure appropriate resolution of service requests within defined time periods, levels of accuracy and quality standards and customer satisfaction levels. 
  • They treat the workforce with dignity and respect, maintaining high levels of confidentiality, trust, and integrity in the handling of sensitive matters. 
  • They adhere to established standards and guidelines.
  • Provide training on employee relations focused on suitable workplace behaviors and performance management initiatives.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s or master’s with Human Resources specialization in Employee & Labour relation or human resource management
  • Certification in Korea or Japan Labour Law would be a plus
  • Minimum 5+ years HR experience with a concentration in Employee Relations, Labor Relations, and/or HR Generalist experience researching, investigating, and addressing employee misconduct and below performance standards, providing guidance to management
  • Knowledge of a country’s Employment Relations law and practices and ability to handle ER issues in autonomy, or with the supervision of a manager for more complex issues
  • Knowledge of Labor Relations law and practices and ability to prepare all regular LR meetings with autonomy + ability to lead alone simple LR regular meetings
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
  • Identified specific expertise on at least one given topic belonging to the ER/LR domain
  • Detail-oriented (especially about effectively managing employee relations issues and investigations)
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Customer orientation and excellent customer service skills
  • Enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment
  • Relationship management, coaching and collaboration skills
  • Negotiation and consultative skills
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills in English + understanding of Japanese language will be an added advantage.
  • Will be trusted to secure and maintain confidential information
  • Strong MS office and related technology tools skills
