Packaging Engineer – Fixed Term 24 months
This position reports to the Sup. Eng. Trade Customization & External Manufacturer and is based in Mexico City.

What you will do
Responsible for leading packaging development and implementation for new products and cost improvement initiatives, ensuring qualification and performance on production and manual packaging lines. This role involves leading packaging development projects, driving cost optimization, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in packaging processes. The candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Key Responsibilities
- Support packaging development: Assist with feasibility studies, evaluations, and business justifications for new product development (NPD), new product introduction (NPI), and packaging improvements.
- Packaging development: Develop and implement secondary and tertiary packaging solutions, including trade customization, artwork development, specifications, configuration, palletization, and transportation testing, for both internal and external manufacturing.
- Define and execute secondary and tertiary packaging development plan
- Technical expertise: Analyze and validate technical drawings, create packaging component (PC) and decorated (DC) specifications, and manage Master Data Management (MDM) flow.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Supply Chain, Global Packaging, Production, Quality, Procurement, and Shopper Marketing teams to ensure packaging materials meet consumer and stakeholder needs.
- Innovation: Explore innovative packaging concepts and designs that align with sustainability requirements and business needs.
- Troubleshooting: Support troubleshooting related to packaging and line qualification and execute line trials with corresponding documentation.
- Documentation: Develop Technical Document (TEC) guidelines to detail packaging material requirements.
- Quality management: Manage Material Event Notifications (MEN) and Supplier Event Notifications (SEN) to maintain quality of tertiary packaging materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Packaging, Engineering, or a related Science field required
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in OTC Industry
- Experience with packaging line trials, testing, and validation, and exposure to different packaging technologies and work processes
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations, including third-party manufacturing, and ability to optimize processes for efficiency and quality
- Proficiency in tools and processes used in manufacturing, such as DfM, D-FMEA, MDM, BOM, GCC, Root Cause Analysis, Statistics, and Lean Manufacturing
- Understanding of GMP, Hygiene Practice, and Quality System requirements
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Strong project management skills, with ability to prioritize, initiate, and drive projects to completion
- Demonstrates a proactive, flexible, and positive attitude
- Good teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to thrive in a close and multi-disciplined environment
- Ability to network and interact effectively with a broad range of associates
- Fluent in English, with strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Proactive approach to EH&S initiatives and support for safety programs deployment
