The Process Engineer, working under general supervision, is responsible for providing technical support, project development and execution in the areas of design, selection, installation, development, improvement, qualification and validation of manufacturing equipment, processes, and systems.
The individual provides technical guidance for equipment while collaborating with the cross-functional team to identify and address equipment, process and /or qualification/validation needs. Performs research on innovative technology and applied engineering solutions for potential applications. Finds opportunities (cost saving, capacity, capability, quality, efficiency, reliability, safety, and compliance) and assesses investments (capital and expense). Contributes to or leads project planning, development, and implementation of capital projects. May lead small capital projects at the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and executing equipment and validation projects related to life cycle management initiatives while supporting the development of risk mitigation strategies to deliver project commitments.
- Collaborate with team members to understand and improve assigned processes and equipment technologies aiming to implement best-in-class practices within the company.
- Help plan and execute equipment and validation strategies that align with consumer asset management strategies to assigned areas within the company, focusing on identifying limitations and proposing technical solutions to reduce waste.
- Participate in the installation, qualification, validation, and startup of equipment for as-signed projects, communicating any potential issues to site teams to support successful project outcomes.
- Provide engineering solutions and technical assistance to Manufacturing and other de-partments, contributing to the execution of equipment strategies.
- Support the development and implementation of plans to maintain high levels of Opera-tional Equipment Efficiency (OEE) in assigned areas, identifying opportunities to en-hance compliance, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness through multi-site projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to draft and gain alignment on necessary docu-mentation for equipment systems qualifications and validations.
- Assist in conducting line trials, engineering studies, equipment qualifications, and pro-cess performance qualifications.
- Ensure that all training requirements are current and successfully completed prior to the execution of specific work activities.
- Support the development and review of change controls related to equipment and valida-tion modifications.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting equipment/process issues, utilizing tools such as Kepner Tregoe and DMAIC for root cause analysis, and assist in writing tech-nical reports as needed (e.g., technical memos, Non-Conformance (NC) reports, and Cor-rective/Preventive Actions (CAPAs)).
- Contribute to the Long-Range Financial Plan for the assigned area and assist in preparing Equipment Periodic Reviews.
- Writes or reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on area of experience and training.
- Assist in managing investigations, CAPAs, and APR data collection, analysis, and re-view/approval.
- Participates in the review and approval process for Commissioning and Qualification documentation, including plans, protocols, and reports.
- Participate in the review and approval process for Computer System Validation documen-tation, such as plans, User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Design Speci-fications (FDS), and Traceability Matrices (TRM).
- Maintains training proficiency on cGMPS, SOP’s, testing procedures, and data analysis as required.
- Foster collaboration with cross-functional teams and management.
- Work with moderate supervision, contributing to decision-making processes that can im-pact the supply chain.
- Participate in project teams, helping to coordinate activities and resources effectively.
- Solves moderately complex technical issues that can significantly affect product quality and business outcomes.
- Support project management efforts using tools for tracking timelines, risks, issues, and changes, ensuring effective planning and execution.
- Contribute to area ownership, providing insights for the long-range financial plan (LRFP) and the integration with the 5-year asset replacement plan, while assisting in managing area strategies and roadmaps, including reliability and automation strategies.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in engineering roles
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
- Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office software - Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Desired Qualifications
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Knowledgeable in Commissioning, Qualification and Computer System Validation, client/server architecture and connectivity concepts.
- Installation and troubleshooting of liquid and/or solid oral dose production and packaging equipment.
- Ability to address moderately complex business problems and present recommendations effectively
- Leadership skills to influence peer engineers and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Results-oriented, quick learner, and motivated to take initiative in task
