Sr. Packaging Engineer

Technical Operations Packaging

This position reports into Technical Operations Packaging Engineering Supervisor and is based in São José dos Campos, Brazil

What will you do 

The Sr. Packaging Engineer is responsible for leading packaging development and implementation for new products and cost improvement initiatives, ensuring qualification and performance on production packaging lines. This professional will also work on continuous improvement initiatives in packaging processes and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Operations, Quality Assurance, R&D and other functions to provide subject matter expertise regarding packaging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise in the areas of design, development, testing and implementation of new tertiary packaging components and systems.
  • Designs, develops, and oversees validation of package components and packaging processes.
  • Utilizes technical expertise, comprehensive work experience, complex and diverse package engineering knowledge to generate valid creative solutions to trade customization, artwork development, specifications creation, palletization and transportation testing, for both internal and external manufacturing.
  • Analyze and validate technical drawings, create packaging component (PC) and decorated (DC) specifications, and manage Master Data Management (MDM) flow as part of supply chain driven packaging projects. Develop Technical Document (TEC) guidelines to detail packaging material requirements.
  • Leads package testing plans and interprets results as required for various projects. Coordinates and performs all activities associated with manufacturing and testing.
  • Determines and coordinates physical testing to ensure product and package integrity for manufacturing through end users. Determines packaging methods and techniques and adapts standard methods to meet variations.
  • Builds technical competencies in packaging materials and processes used in all manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support for investigations, CAPA and troubleshooting events related to packaging materials, packaging process design or consumer complaint, by conducting root cause analysis and historical data evaluation.
  • Work in close collaboration with local, regional and global teams to guarantee compliance, processes harmonization and leverage of best practices across manufacturing sites in Kenvue networking.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Global Packaging, Operations, Quality Assurance, Procurement, and Marketing teams to ensure packaging materials to meet defined requirements.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Availability to work on-site in São José dos Campos.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Packaging, Engineering or a related Science field or with proven experience with packaging development projects.
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in Cosmetic, Personal Care, OTC, Food or related industry
  • Experience in packaging line trials and testing, and exposure to different packaging technologies and work processes as the ones for rigids, flexibles, paper, etc.
  • Experience with filling / packaging processes, artwork and printing processes (offset, flexo, roto, digital).
  • Experience with GMP, Hygiene Practice and Quality System requirements
  • Strong project management skills, and ability to prioritize, initiate and drive projects to completion
  • Demonstrate a proactive, flexible and positive attitude
  • Great teamwork and interpersonal skills, ability to thrive in a close and multi‐discipline environment, and maintain positive and tactful relationships with others
  • Ability to network and interact effectively with a broad range of associates spanning varied disciplines and responsibilities
  • Advanced English in written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive approach to EH&S initiatives and support safety programs deployment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with technical writing, cGMP´s, ANVISA / COFEPRIS / FDA / ICH regulations is desired.
  • Knowledge in root cause analysis tools and statistics (DOE, process capability, control charts, etc.) will be a differentiator
  • Desired to be a critical thinker with problem solving skills
  • Intermediate Spanish will be considered a differential
  • Good communication, organizational, interpersonal and influencing skills.
