Senior Legal Counsel AMET
This position reports to the regional lead counsel for Russia, Africa, Middle East, Turkey and Pakistan (RAMET) and is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

What you will do
Legal support of Kenvue Africa, Middle East and Turkey business by providing strategic corporate counsel and efficient resolution of all legal issues. In this respect, the candidate will be closely working with the lead counsel for Russia, Africa, Middle East, Turkey and Pakistan (RAMET) cluster and role will in particular include the following tasks:
- Regional responsibility supporting the business in Africa, particularly the South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), North and West Africa (NAWA) cluster and Egypt. The company has established legal presence in South Africa and Egypt
- Advising on a broad range of matters in the field of corporate, commercial, competition, agency laws and interpretation of laws and regulations in the field of FMCG – in particular advertising and consumer protection – and Healthcare
- Legal and Healthcare compliance, acting as the legal “touch- point” of the day today operations. Advising on and familiarity with international anti-corruption regulation, in particular US/FCPA legislation
- Support healthcare compliance & data privacy office and other functions including People Function department to ensure compliance with company standards and policies
- Draft and negotiate a broad range of contracts, in particular distribution, supply/service agreements as well as contracts with customers and media/PR agencies and healthcare professionals
- Handling the corporate secretary work of the legal structures currently in place in the region in coordination with corporate legal, tax and finance colleagues
- Ensure appropriate training is provided to local teams on key legal topics, such as essentials of contract law, competition law, sanctions and anti-boycott laws, anti-corruption laws
- Deploy policies and procedures that are aligned with business strategic imperatives.
- Monitoring and staying updated on major developments of relevant local laws and regulations. For that also effectively partner with outside counsel and key-trade associations or internal functions like the governmental affairs team
- Advising and supporting M&A activities and coordination of dispute resolution and litigation by liaising with and manage outside counsel
What we are looking for
Required Qualifications
- Legal Degree from a reputable institution, obtained with excellent results.
- Admitted Attorney with at least 5-7 years post qualification experience, acquired in a leading law firm and/or law department of a multinational corporation.
- Experience in the FMCG or Healthcare industry is an asset
- Knowledge and experience of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
- Candidate should have influential skills combined with emotional intelligence.
- Knowledge of Arabic & French considered to be an asset.
- Ability to work in autonomy and handle various business partners in global organization.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- You are able to travel up to 20% of the time.
