What you will do 

The Senior Indirect Tax Lawyer (Brazil) is responsible for leading all indirect tax advisory matters in Brazil, with particular emphasis on the ongoing Brazilian tax reform (ICMS, IBS/CBS transition) and the optimization of indirect tax credit utilization. This role will act as the key advisor to the business, ensuring compliant, efficient, and forward-looking Indirect Tax strategies while managing complex regulatory changes and their operational impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Indirect Tax Advisory Leadership

• Own and lead all indirect tax advisory activities in Brazil.
• Provide strategic guidance on VAT/GST-type taxes including ICMS, ICMS-ST, IPI, and future IBS/CBS regimes.
• Act as trusted advisor to business units, finance, and leadership on tax implications of commercial and operational decisions.

​Brazil Tax Reform (Primary Focus Area)

• Lead the company’s readiness and adaptation to Brazilian tax reform.
• Interpret legislative developments and translate them into actionable business strategies.
• Drive impact assessments across supply chain, pricing, contracts, systems, and compliance.
• Collaborate with global and regional stakeholders to ensure alignment with broader tax strategy.
• Work with the Brazil Indirect Tax compliance team and Brazil head of tax to ensure tax reform is implemented successfully.

Tax Credits Strategy & Optimization

• Define and implement strategies for identification, recovery, and optimization of indirect tax credits.
• Oversee processes for maximizing credit utilization and minimizing tax leakage.
• Support audits, litigation, and recovery initiatives related to historical credits.

Stakeholder Management

• Partner closely with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams.
• Act as main point of contact for external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities where required.
• Provide clear and practical guidance to non-tax stakeholders.

Governance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with all indirect tax obligations and internal policies.
• Proactively identify tax risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Support legal team on tax controversy matters and manage audit exposure.

Team Leadership

• Manage and develop one direct report.
• Provide coaching, technical guidance, and career development support.
• Foster a high-performance, collaborative team environment.

What we are looking for

• Law degree/Accounting degree with specialization in Tax Law or Tax Accounting background.
• Solid experience in indirect tax, with strong Brazil expertise.
• Deep knowledge of Brazilian indirect tax system and upcoming tax reform.
• Proven experience in tax advisory, tax planning, and credit recovery strategies.
• Experience working in multinational environments preferred.
• English language is required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Ability to translate complex legislation into business impact.
• Strategic thinking with hands-on execution capability.
• Leadership and people management skills.
